The Phoenix is the first song BXF ever wrote as a band. It was inspired by an incredibly fast guitar part that Danny Wacker had written for another song called Rockstar. Rockstar, Juggernaut, and a handful of others were holdovers from my previous band, "BLAZED". In 2003, my friend and Blazed drummer Kris Dalene died in a car accident on the way home from a gig. "Baptized By Fire" was formed a few years later, and for me it was very much formed as a tribute to him. I wanted to call the band "The Phoenix" because I was coming out of the ashes of a great loss, my friend, my partner in music, Kris. We settled on "Baptized By Fire" but I knew EXACTLY what our first song was gonna be - everything I needed to hear to move on creatively and keep going without my friend. Little did I know, I'd bring him with me. I still do.
